Waterfall Bowl SOLD

A second piece in the stoneware slip series in a thick waterfall glaze. The waterfall glaze does accentuate this technique for sure.

Stoneware Swirl Bowl SOLD

Honestly this bowl was a text of a thick stonemware slip I mixed up. I usually use a white porcelain slip to add texture, draw, and carve on. But...why not stoneware? The result was nice and wanting some of these pieces to have a rich dark clay body rather then white this solved my problem.

Sushi/Appetizer Platter SOLD

This platter does stretch and test the boundaries of clay. A large piece of clay is thrown in a disk on the potter's wheel, finger marks are applied, and the it is cut off of the wheel head. I then stretch and toss the cylinder into a long oval and apply curves to the edges. The handles seem to complete the shape and serve in the function as well. A bold red glaze is then applied.

Triple Dip Bowl

Even an established potter has a certain amount of control, it is then up to the firing and the glazes to make the work complete. It is so exciting to open the kiln and see what the process has created.

Lidded Vase SOLD

In hopes of giving a Mediterranean flair, this covered pot has a still and deliberate presence. Just right for treasures or jewelry.

Variegated Blue Vase SOLD

Sometimes the clay, form, and pot come together to make a combination that is just right, exactly what it hoped for. These are the little miracles that come out of the kiln and are one of a kind. Hopefully that speaks for the itself...

It may be noticed that many of my pots support the idea of 'three' just as this cup does. The 3 piercings represent the 3 piercings that Jesus endured for us. Yes it is a bold statement, but I love the reminder of his great sacrifice. What's better then waking up in the morning and enjoying a cup of milk while being reminded of our savior's great love for us. The love that is more than we can understand and that can pull anyone through any event, time, or trouble. He endured all that we have been through so we do not have too. How great is our God?

Stoneware Lily Sgraffito Vase $70

STARGAZER LILY VASE

Stoneware vase with a lily using the sgraffito process. Sgraffito is an ancient Japanese technique where porecelain clay is painted on the outside of stoneware clay with textured brushes. Tools are used to carve through the surface to create the delicate lily design, colorants are rubbed into the surface, and then glaze is applied to reveal a vibrant lily design. Vase is 8-9.5" tall.

Bud Vase $15

How many times have I seen a beautiful flower outside and hoped to bring it's beauty inside. A bud vase is a great solution...and way to bring nature into the home.

A look into the firing

Firing the kiln is an adventure in itself. It's like Christmas when the kiln is opened revealing a durable piece of pottery. The next firing will be the glaze firing and it is always a wonder to see what comes from the firing process. As I always say...Never get too attached until your piece is completely through the firing process. There are so many things that can happen.

Carved Spearmint Bowl SOLD
My eye is always drawn to contrasting textures, so I have been experimenting with throwing thicker forms and then carving away the surface. I'm thoroughly enjoying this technique.

Large Variegated Blue Vase $95

Realistically a vase with a small opening is ideal for holding a dozen roses or long stemmed flowers. Many vases have huge openings that would need many stems to fill them. This was made with the purpose of holding the dozen or so and making a statement in the center of your table. The handles seem to show that the pot has confidence and is strong.

Brushed Lily Serving Platter $40

A simple brush stroke can completely change the focal point of a piece. This serving platter's design is graceful and inviting. A spearmint glaze was used with red iron oxide painted on the surface.

Dotted Red Serving Bowl

Dotted Serving Bowl Sold
This piece was an experiment with texture....something I love. I'm actually working on using more in my work. I also love the contrast of matte versus shiny on the piece and how the piece seems to lift off of the foot as if it's standing on a pedestal.
